Ingredients

Smoothie Base
  • 2 ripe bananas sliced and frozen
  • 2 tbsp hazelnut butter
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 pitted date
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk plus more as needed
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
Toppings
  • Sliced banana
  • Toasted hazelnuts chopped
  • Cacao nibs
  • Granola
  • Extra hazelnut butter for drizzling

Method

  1. Freeze sliced bananas for at least 2 hours.
  2. Add frozen banana, hazelnut butter, cocoa powder, date, almond milk, vanilla, and salt to a blender.
  3. Blend until smooth and thick, adding more almond milk a tablespoon at a time if needed.
  4. Taste and adjust sweetness or chocolate flavor as needed.
  5. Pour into a bowl, top with banana, hazelnuts, cacao nibs, and granola, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Freezing the banana ahead of time is essential for a thick, spoonable texture.
  • Add toppings right before eating so they stay crunchy.
  • This doesn't store well once blended, best made fresh each time.
